Slip Casting

Process

Ceramic slip is a slurry of different fine powders and water that once dried and fired turns into a very hard ceramic. This slip is poured into a mold made of plaster which wicks the water away. The slip will dry on the outer edges touching the plaster and the remaining liquid slip can be poured out, revealing a hollow shape in the form of the mold. This is then dried and fired at high temperatures in a kiln to fuse all of the fine particles together which creates a hard ceramic.
